An update from the Opticians Association of Canada
Dear Member,
We're living in extraordinary times and we're learning more about COVID-19 every day.
Provincial governments are announcing strategies and measures to move beyond the "containment phase" to the "community spread" phase to counter COVID-19. We remind Opticians to be diligent and follow the recommendations and strategies as outlined by your Provincial government.
As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we all have a role to play in slowing its spread and minimizing its impact on our health care system and in our communities. Thus, the OAC has taken the following measures:
Cancellation of all IN-PERSON continuing education events hosted by the OAC for the months of March and April. Online activities will continue as planned. We remind OAC members that our full online education library is available for free.
The closure of the OAC office located in Winnipeg, starting on March 16. While our on-site office in Winnipeg is closed, the OAC administrative team remains available remotely to you and optical community across the country. Please give preference to emails when communicating with our office. Contact emails for the OAC team can be found at: https://www.opticians.ca/site/contactus?nav=sidebar. Telephone messages left on our main telephone line (1-800-847-3155 x 0) will be retrieved and responded within 1 business day.
The Public Health Agency of Canada, along with provincial, territorial and community partners, continues to reassess the public health risk, based on the best available evidence as the situation evolves. The OAC is keeping a close eye on the situation and its impact on our members and Opticians as a whole. We will continue to communicate with you about other upcoming events and any other pertinent information related to COVID-19 and the optical industry.
Please continue to take care of yourself and your family, and we truly believe we will come out of this stronger than ever, together.
