The OAC brings closure to yet another year. 2018 was certainly a turning point in the optical industry. I see many Optician entrepreneurs finding their way to success, integrating new technology and focusing on customer experience. There is now a healthy contingent of Opticians working in clinical practices and those who are ascending the ranks in their practice environments. Congratulations to all OAC members who are taking advantage of all opportunities in their career and making a difference to the health of the optical industry in Canada.
So where do we go next?There are many business models that are up and running which are quite different from what we would have expected only a few short years ago. Our understanding of technology has expanded, and our implementation of technology has deepened.....
Pillar of the OAC Retires
When you think of the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC), we can bet that for the majority, the name Pat Dobbyn comes to mind. Pat Dobbyn has been with the OAC since it's VERY FIRST DAY in 1990 when it was started in a very small apartment in Winnipeg with only Pat and Nick Atkinson as staff.
Pat began as receptionist and played numerous roles as the years passed, eventually moving into Senior Manager of Membership Services, Finances and Vision Canada. Pat could be found at the OAC office at all hours of the day or night, ensuring that the needs of our members, partners and administrative team were met.
Pat was a fierce negotiator, and always challenged others around her to be better. For those who knew Pat, you also experienced her kindness and know she has a soft spot for her many colleagues and friends she has made throughout her years with the OAC.
Pat played a vital role in the growth of the OAC to what it is today; a national association of over 3500 representing Licensed Opticians and the profession.
After almost 30 years of tireless dedication, commitment, and passion, Pat has retired from the OAC. Pat looks forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and other activities she enjoys.
We wish Pat all the best and cannot put into words our gratitude for her years of service with the OAC. Enjoy your time for you, Pat!

The OAC and OOA are hosting the 2nd Annual Student Night & Job Fair on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Riviera Event Space located in Vaughan, ON. This evening will provide a relaxed atmosphere for students and optical community guests to network, explore potential employment opportunities, and enjoy an evening of music, cocktails and appetizers.

'Eye Spy' Contest
The Nova Scotia Society of Dispensing Opticians (NSSDO) has launched an 'EYE' SPY THE POSTER Contest on their Facebook page, to augment the Transit Bus poster campaign they are running in the Halifax area.
